Occupying Wall Street - The L.A. Flower Mart

This is the other Wall St., the one in Downtown L.A.

The Los Angeles Flower Mart and the Southern California Flower Market

straddle Wall St. between 7th and 8th St.

It is steps from L.A.'s skidrow, which makes for a stark contrast.

So much beauty and simplicity alongside so much sadness.

A friend had been telling me I needed to come here, from the moment I moved to L.A.

but she also told me I needed to get there by 8 a.m. LATEST!  (For the bargains, presumably.)

Well, I am not such a morning person.  Sooooooooooo

It took me awhile to get here.

WORTH THE TRIP THO'!

I'll let you in on a little secret - the more interesting flowers are at the Southern California Flower Mart.

The "local" growers will take more risks with interesting flowers than will the industrial growers from Ecuador and Mexico.

Here's what I brought back from the Southern California side.  I think I did well.  What do you think?  I'll show you the arrangement I made soon!

  1. THe trouble with living in a small farming community is that you can't find flower markets at all - the only flowers to buy (even as seeds) are the edible kind (zucchini and .... hmn, do we eat any other blossoms?).

  2. This post is pure bliss for me, I was with you every step of the way, and the Ranunculus and anemones you chose are just beautiful. I can hear all the hustle and bustle. Market sellers like that often have a curious indifference to their wares I've found, not like florists. Gosh, to work every day amongst all that beauty! I think I'd be there every week, infact I know I would! Vanessa xxx
