My Secret Food Life

It's totally O.K. with me

if you'd like to think

that this is what my food life looks like.

I'd like to think so too!

Did you eat anything good this past weekend?

Most of these pictures came from the Marion House blog.  Hungry at all?

Good In the Hood - Lucky Duck, Silver Lake

The very latest addition to my neighborhood: Lucky Duck

If you like Ottolenghi and Nopi style food, I think you'd like eating here.

They still have a few kinks to work out and it's not inexpensive.  But for a treat and a surprise and food you won't find just anywhere, I would say it's "well worth the detour".  Try the potato bombolonis!  (YUM!)

Where will you be this weekend?  Do ENJOY!

More Decorating? Green Shoots!

Oh yes!  Remember how the hip-hop kids used to say that something was "so fresh!" when they thought that something was cool?

Green shoots: SO FRESH!

Vivement Couleur!

How was the weekend?

Mine was a bit busy so

I didn't have a lot of time to put something

lovely together for you.  But here are some odds and ends of bright, bracing color

to help you start your week out right.

Hope you like it.

The photos are kind of various....

but these last two are from a talented German-by-way-of-New Zealand designer and paper cutter named Ellen Giggenbach.

A litte bird has just told me that IT'S SPRING!  Something to celebrate, no?  Hope you are!

**  A little something else to put a smile on your face for the week:  Would you like to meet some of the "Bodega Cats" of New York City?  Click here.  No audio needed!

Good in the Hood - Covell's, Los Feliz

If it's Friday, it must be Covell's

Actually, it's a favorite Sunday afternoon landing spot for the Paradis family

after a nice walk or for pre-dinner or movie drinks.

Craft beers, a thoughtful wine selection

Yours Truly almost always ends up with a pink drink since it's almost always rose weather

in L.A.  They have a very limited but nice "bar menu" too.  Recommended for a very

HAPPY WEEKEND!

Mad for Miniature

Have you seen the Grand Budapest Hotel yet?

I've been listening to interviews and reviews about it.

In one interview, Wes Anderson cites these miniature rooms as inspiration for his work.

And someplace that he has visited many many times.

For us Yanks who can't easily hop planes and trains to see how the "other half lives"

Wes Anderson has reminded us about:  the Thorne Collection of Miniatures at the Chicago Institute of Art.  Do you know it already?  Have you been?

California Natives - Via Annie's Annuals

Continuing in that "Spring Thing" theme....

from Annie's Annuals who I posted about

last Spring here........

These are all California native flowers.

Aren't we spoiled?

My new lot next door needs so much work - a fence to start with.  I should really have a "PLAN".

But these lovelies are making me think - to hell with it!  Let's just stick something in the ground!  How could I go wrong with these choices?

For Your Spring - Winifred Nicholson

Sorry the quality of some of these reproductions is a bit

dodgy.

Had to share these beautiful paintings by Winifred Nicholson.

Recognized, but perhaps a little under appreciated, along with Gwen Johns

and Dora Carrington.  All English Modernist Female Painters.

This painter, Winifred Nicholson, is currently being featured in a show at Kettle's Yard

Cambridge, England then moving to the Dulwich Picture Gallery.  See more here.  And here.

*******
I started a page at Avaaz to petition world leaders to do more to help Syrian civilians.  The link that I provided within this text got hacked so sincere apologies for any damage done if you tried to use it.  I'm going to disable it for the moment.  The link at the very bottom of this blog page remains clean.

For an alternative, you can also join Hugh Grant and Banksy, Senator Tim Kaine, Desmond Tutu, the Church of England among others if you are a Twitter user:  HERE to support efforts on behalf of the Syrian people.  It's been three years of chaos and suffering.  You'd want someone to do it for you.  Don't feel guilty or ashamed - you can help - just CLICK!

AND HAVE A LOVELY WEEKEND PLEASE!

Dottie Angel - The Sweet, Whimsical World of ..........

Here's another one of those endlessly creative people.

How does she do it?

With multiple animals.

Multiple kids.

Multiple impulses.

A beautiful and unerring eye for color.

And the energy

to fulfill dreams!  (Could somebody?)  Make me more like her!

All pics Dottie Angel

Just some Spring pretties
