Emergency! Japan Needs an Airlift: Here's Why

Michael Auslin, Director of Japan Studies at the American Enterprise Institute makes the following clear and concise case for what is needed:

You can contact your representatives, your heads of state, your non-governmental organization of choice, the Japanese Consulate where you are and anyone else in a position of influence you that might know or know of, to add your voice and urge them to pursue this.

Avaaz is a global people-powered activist humanitarian organization that can also add leverage.  I've already emailed them a request to initiate petitions.  You can too.  Please contact them here.

Update:  The LATimes reports the Japanese government have now admitted they should have "acted faster" regarding the series of crises.  I don't think it's wrong (though you might think I'm a nutcase!)  to encourage them to put that lesson to work right away in addressing the continuing humanitarian crisis.

  5. Pls do some work w/the World Food Programme. I just left a msg on Hidden in France. Also everyone should know that Japan is the fourth largest donor to WFP. Now that they can't donate but will be using WFP, the crisis in Haiti & elsewhere re: food security will be compounded if donations don't go up. There are bloggers against hunger on WFP.

    Cheers.
